Beskrivelse Australian War Memorial image 120420. Captain Jock McLaren (at left) indicating to Captain Leonard Gordon Darling his former sleeping place under a hut on Berhala Island, North Borneo when he was a prisoner of war in October 1945. McLaren was captured by the Japanese when Singapore surrendered but escaped from captivity in 1943. He spent the rest of the war with Philippino guerrillas and Australian special forces units.
