Harold J. Berman (født 13. februar 1918, død 13. november 2007) var en amerikansk jurist og ekspert på komparativ rett, folkerett, sovjetisk/russisk rett, rettshistorie, rettsfilosofi og sammenhengen mellom rett og religion.[1][2] Han var professor ved Harvard Law School og Emory University School of Law i over seksti år, og hadde James Barr Ames-professoratet i jus ved Harvard før han fikk det første Robert W. Woodruff-professoratet i jus ved Emory. Han har blitt omtalt som "en av de store universalgenier i amerikansk rettsvitenskap".[3][4][5]

Berman skrev 25 bøker og mer enn 400 artikler, bl.a. Law and Revolution: The Formation of the Western Legal Tradition and The Nature and Functions of Law. Tidsskriftet Constitutional Commentary beskrev Law And Revolution som "det naturlige utgangspunktet for arbeid i feltet [vestlig rettshistorie]". The New York Times beskrev Berman som "en forsker … hvis kraftfulle lærdom endret tenkningen om vestlig retts opprinnelse".
