== Historie ==&lt;br /&gt;
British Airways ble dannet i [[1935]] etter en fusjon av tre mindre flyselskaper. I [[1939]] ble det nasjonalisert sammen med et annet britisk flyselskap, «[[Imperial Airways]]», under navnet «[[British Overseas Airways Corporation]] (BOAC)». Det sto som navnet antyder, kun for flyvninger til oversjøiske destinasjoner.&lt;br /&gt;

[[British European Airways]] (BEA) stod for trafikken innenlands og i Europa. De to selskaper ble ikke slått sammen før [[1972]], og ble da gitt navnet British Airways. Det ble privatisert i [[1987]]&lt;br /&gt;

I 1976 tok  British Airways og [[Air France]] som de to første og eneste selskaper i bruk overlydsflyet [[Concorde]]. Flyene var i bruk til [[23. oktober]] 2003. De ble tatt ut av bruk fordi vedlikeholdskostnadene ble for store til at selskapene av bare prestisjehensyn kunne forsvare driften.&lt;br /&gt;

[[British Airways Flight 5390]] mistet kontrollen da en av frontrutene falt av og piloten ble sugd ut. Annenpiloten klarte å nødlande og ingen ble skadet. Pilotene slapp unna med lettere skader.&lt;br /&gt;

[[British Airways Flight 9]], også kalt Jakartaulykken, var en nestenulykke 24. juni 1982 nær Jakarta. En Boeing 747 fra British Airways fløy inn i en askesky og alle fire motorene stoppet. Men ved å fly lavere klarte piloten å blåse asken ut av motorene. Askeskyen kom fra et utbrudd av vulkanen Galunggung. Hendelsen er i ettertid gjenskapt i National Geographics TV-dokumentar [[Flyhavarikommisjonen (TV-dokumentar)|Flyhavari-kommisjonen]]&lt;br /&gt;

Den 17. januar 2008 krasjlandet [[British Airways Flight 38]] rett før rullebanen på [[London Heathrow lufthavn]]. Ingen av de 152 personene om bord på flyet omkom, men 47 pådro seg skader, én av dem alvorlig. Flyet av typen [[Boeing 777|Boeing 777-200ER]] ble totalskadet og måtte avskrives. Det var første fly av sin sort som gikk tapt. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Flyhavarikommisjonen&amp;#039;&amp;#039; på National Geographic tok for seg ulykken i en episode kalt &amp;#039;&amp;#039;The Heathrow Enigma&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&lt;br /&gt;

I mars 2001 ble det kjent at British Airways praktiserte et regelverk som forbød voksne mannlige passasjerer å sitte ved siden av [[myndighetsalder|mindreårige]] passasjerer, også når barnas foreldre var til stede under flyreisen.
