==Biografi==
Han er kjent for sine naturprogrammer og -filmer og som programleder i [[BBC]] i mer enn 50 år. Han er tidligere senior manager i BBC, og har tjenestegjort som kontrollør{{klargjør}} i [[BBC2]] og som programdirektør i [[BBC Television]] i 1960- og 1970-årene.

I 1985 ble han utnevnt til [[Knight Bachelor]] for sitt arbeide. Han ble derved adlet og fikk rett til å føre tiltaleformen ''[[sir]]'' foran navnet sitt. Han har også blitt utnevnt til en rekke britiske [[Orden (utmerkelse)|ordener]]. I 1974 ble han utnevnt til [[Kommandør (ordensklasse)|kommandør]] av [[Order of the British Empire]], i 1991 til kommandør av [[Royal Victorian Order]] og i 1996 ble han utnevnt til [[Order of the Companions of Honour]]. I 1995 ble han tildelt [[Order of Merit]]. Attenborough er ''Fellow'' av [[Royal Society]] og av [[Zoological Society of London]].

Han er den mellomste av tre brødre. Den eldste broren er skuespilleren og regissøren [[Richard Attenborough]].
