==C4, 1989&ndash;97==
C4 ble introdusert i [[1989]], og var en kraftig modernifisering fra C3. Den største motor endringen var intruduksjonen av en 2.8 l V6 motor. Denne ble senere etterfulgt av en 2.6 l V6 variant. De var i hovedsak samme motorer som ble introdusert i [[Audi 80]] i [[1992]]. Nesten alle C4 modellene kunne kjøpes med Quattro firehjulstrekk (ikke på de aller minste motorene) og Audi 100 Quattro var også tilgjengelig med en ZF 4-trinns automatgirkasse.

Fra 1993/1994 modellen skiftet C4 navn fra Audi 100 til [[Audi A6]], samtidig som modellen fikk en mindre ansiktsløftning med endringer på grillen, front- og baklykter, samt hellakkerte støtfangere. Quattrosystemet ble modernisert ved at den bryterbetjente differensialsperren på bakakselen ble erstattet av et helautomatisk elektronisk system ''EDL'' som bruker hjulbremsene på både for- og bakhjul til å gi sperreeffekt. I tillegg ble toppmodellen av C4, som tidligere ble solgt under navnet [[Audi S4]] omdøpt til [[Audi S6]].

==C4, 1991&ndash;97==
A heavily revised C3, the C4, was introduced in [[1991]]. The C3-platform V8 continued to be sold as a separate line. The major change was the introduction of a 2.8l V6 engine. It was later joined by a 2.6l variant. They were essentially the same engines as the two V6 introduced for the [[1992]] [[Audi 80]]. The option of quattro all wheel drive was an option across the range, and the Audi 100 quattro was available with a ZF 4-speed automatic gearbox.

For the 1995 model year, Audi dropped the 100 nameplate, calling it the [[Audi A6|A6]] instead. In addition, what had previously been sold as the [[Audi A4|S4]] became the [[Audi S6|S6]], however the two models became completely independent of one another after Audi's replacement of the [[Audi 90|90]] with the [[Audi A4|A4]] model in 1996. The V8 was eventually replaced by the [[Audi A8|A8]] in 1994.

== Chinese production ==
The C3-platform Audi 100 was also assembled in [[Changchun]], [[China]], by [[First Automobile Works|FAW]] (First Automobile Works, a Chinese automotive manufacturer) as the  [[Hongqi]] (Red Flag) CA7200 series from the mid-1990s. It had a 4 cylinder petrol engine and front-wheel drive transmission only. The early products were essentially Audi 100 with the only difference of the FAW emblem in the grill. In the late 1990s, some changes were made in both engine and styling. New engines from [[Nissan]] replaced the original 4 cylinder petrol engine.
